The dirty truth about grout
Grout is a cement-based porous substance. When you continuously mop you floor, dirty water, cooking oils, soap and outside debris gather in those pores causing permanent staining and discoloration. Similarly, each time you use your shower, various soaps and shampoos, dirt, and oil build up in the grout, which is constantly exposed to water. It starts to turn pink (bacteria growth), then black (mold). You try to figure out how to clean your grout and tile and spend hours scrubbing, only for the build-up to return.
Why?
Unfortunately at the time of installation, most grout is not properly sealed with a high-quality product; discoloration starts fairly quickly and gets worse over time. The integrity of the grout will also start to deteriorate and it eventually breaks down, creating the need for expensive re-grouting and even new tiling. The good news? You can have your grout and tile professionally cleaned for an effective, deep removal of this buildup for longer lasting results at a fraction of the cost of replacing it. You can also choose to have it re-colored with a product that seals the grout and prevents future penetration and contamination for years to come.
